The Fraser Valley Hunt was founded in 1968, and was recognized in 1972 by the governing body of Hunts in North America - the Masters of Foxhounds Association of America. Our hunts are drag hunts, meaning that the scent of the fox is laid down or dragged in a manner to simulate live hunting. Since the course taken can be predicted, the integrity of the farmlands is preserved. Also a safe way around hazards can be constructed with the rider in mind. Our membership is open to riders of all ages. Our junior members are usually drawn from the ranks of Pony Clubs, who have achieved their C Level at Pony Club. Membership is open to all adults, to any person who is prepared to share the good fellowship that epitomizes our sport. Both individual and family memberships are available. Non-riding members or casual riders are invited to join the Hunt Supporters, either as individual or corporate members, and to pay a "cap" when they ride to hounds. Members and guests are welcome to join our huntsman during the off season (May to August) for hound exercises. Although there is no jumping and the pace is slower, a leisurely introduction to the sport can be experienced. Cub hunting dress is required. Formal hunting usually commences in early November and continues (weather permitting) through to april. Throughout our season our meets are suitable for "hilltopping" which is ideal for those who wish to ride to hounds in a somewhat slower pace and without jumping. |
