Foxhunting Clinic

Usually late summer. The purpose of the clinic is to teach the basic skills needed to ride to hounds:

  • galloping your horse safely at speed under Hunt conditions (i.e. no prepared course)
  • cantering and galloping in a group (controlling your horse, maintaining a safe separation, avoiding mud and rocks kicked up by the horse in front, selecting your speed and route)
  • controlling an excited horse (horses that want to race, stopping a run-away)
  • cross-country jumping under Hunt conditions (safe seat for jumping, unknown landing, other riders, refusals)
  • basic safety-related rules of Hunting (Field Master, Huntsman, hounds)
The clinic will give you an introduction to all the fun, excitement, and camaraderie of the Hunt.

Hound Exercises

Members and guests are welcome to join our huntsman during the off-season (May to August) for hound exercises. Although there is no jumping and the pace is slower, a leisurely introduction to the sport can be experienced.

For more information on hunt dates and times phone the Kennels 604-856-6170 or Joint Master 604-594-2265.
